Christine also said about how they met “We first met in 1998 when we were both working at the Waverley RSL while studying. Jay was the bar manager and I was the bistro supervisor, and when our shifts crossed over let’s just say not a lot of work got done because we were too busy checking each other out. I remember being completely besotted. I thought Jay was the most charming and handsome creature I had ever seen, with his killer smile and piercing blue eyes. He was charismatic, charming and a true gentleman. According to Jay, I was amazingly beautiful, graceful, charming, funny, elegant, and everything else he thought a princess would and should be. He was convinced I was out of his league. Hehe. On the 1st of September 2012 Jay organised a special family lunch at the Morning Star Estate in Mornington, which was a special place we had frequented in our 20s. We were running late (as usual), but when we arrived I noted that no family members’ cars were in the car park, which was particularly unusual for our mothers. Nevertheless we made our way into the restaurant, where there was a table decorated with the most beautiful array of roses. Not knowing why we were really there, I said “looks like some lucky couple are getting engaged today.” Jay sheepishly led me to that very same table, and in front of all the staff and patrons he got down on one knee and said, “Yes, I hope it’s us.” Of course I said yes! I felt ecstatic and it was the most wonderful surprise!”
